FHI 360 is an international nonprofit working to improve the health and well-being of people in the United States and around the world.

We partner with governments, the private sector and civil society to bring about positive social change and to provide lifesaving health care, quality education and opportunities for meaningful economic participation. We do this by using research and evidence to design and deliver innovative programs that change behaviors, increase access to services and improve lives. 

Our staff of more than 4,000 professionals work in more than 60 countries. Their diverse technical expertise and deep understanding of local conditions provide a 360-degree perspective that allows us to develop customized responses to the toughest human development challenges.

Capacity building

At FHI 360, our commitment to build enduring capacity underpins all of our efforts. Through decades of collaborative on-the-ground experience, our experts develop the potential of national and local governments, community and faith-based organizations, and private-sector entities to meet challenges, solve problems and improve lives in lasting ways.

We build capacity into all aspects of programming, including strategic planning, needs assessment, program design and development, work planning, budgeting, implementation, and ongoing monitoring and evaluation.

Creative services

ur Design Lab 360 is an award-winning, full-service creative studio. We champion the strategic value of design in creating positive social change. We actively involve our audiences, implementing thoughtful design solutions that are relevant, engaging and accessible.

We produce comprehensive toolkits and training materials that include mentoring guides, how-to cards, lesson plans and training curricula. We help put together packages that equip and motivate teachers, trainers, champions and stakeholders.

Our designers create innovative websites and presentations. Whether it is a website for a Tanzanian health organization or a resource portal for teachers, the user experience drives our thinking. Our expertise includes creating materials that are accessible to people with disabilities or limited connectivity.

Data analysis

At FHI 360, high-quality data management is central to every study we conduct.

Our staff provide comprehensive services in quantitative analysis, biostatistics and data management.

Emerging infectious diseases and pandemic response

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought into focus the importance of pandemic preparedness and response. It is testing the strength of societies and health systems around the world and is currently among the highest priorities for U.S. and global public health and safety.

FHI 360 addresses emerging pandemics and epidemics with expertise that supports health security efforts  in the United States and globally, improving epidemic preparedness, detection and response. We incorporate technological innovations and use cutting-edge behavioral, sociomedical, epidemiological, laboratory and clinical research sciences to understand, prevent and contain these emerging threats.

FHI 360 has worked on outbreak preparedness and response for several pandemic threats, including COVID-19, new influenza strains like the avian flu and H1N1, Dengue fever, Ebola and Zika.

Research services

There is an art to improving lives. And it’s in our science. Our tagline, "The Science of Improving Lives," underscores our long history of placing evidence and research at the center of our work. At FHI 360, we use research to respond to a wide variety of human development issues, including health, education, economic development and gender equality.

High-quality research generates the evidence that is used to determine which interventions will be most effective. We first study the realities of each situation, including the culture and motivations of the people in any given community. We then create customized, integrated solutions to the human development issues we are addressing. And then we do further research to see if these interventions produce the impact we desire.

FHI 360's research programs have consistently broken new ground. We provide government ministries, international aid organizations, nongovernmental agencies and service providers with the information, tools and technical assistance they need to develop evidence-based policies and high-quality interventions. “The Science of Improving Lives" comes to life when we combine our research findings with our extensive field experience and translate that knowledge into practice.
