Barclay Languages is a private centre located in the heart of Central Havana that specialises in Spanish classes, lessons and courses that ignite an interest in learning and immerse you into the incredible time forgotten city of Havana.

Our philosophy is simply – it is give our students the confidence to communicate, it is this communication focus that means our students learn Spanish faster, have more fun and most importantly can interact with native Cubans and Latinos, some of the friendliest and more outgoing people on the planet.

Sure, we have a strong methodology that ensures that you learn Spanish fundamentals, but at our school, we believe in ensuring that it is the student that is doing most of the talking, and that they take this confidence out on the street with them when they leave class. Most importantly, our key goal is to get our students to keep coming back year after year, to experience the addictive rhythm, culture, music and language of the Cuban people.

Classes take place in “El Espacio” purpose built learning centre for languages. The building dates from around 1780, and has been at different times  over its 240 year history, a luxury colonial Spanish house, a steel metal workshop during WW2 and the post revolutionary home for patriot families. It has now been lovingly restored over a period of more than 3 years to provide a learning centre in the middle of one of the most authentic neighbourhoods in Cuba

Our teachers are simply some of the best that exist in Cuba and probably the region. All of our professors have held university faculty teaching positions  hold bacherlors or masters degrees in linguistics  from renowned universities. Most importantly however is that Barcley teachers have many have masters or other advanced degrees. In addition, all our staff have a passion for learning and a passion for fun…which at the end of the day is the most important thing!

Private lessons

Our 1 to 1 Spanish courses are tailored to meet the needs and goals of each student within the curriculum. The course offers personalized attention from our experienced and dedicated teachers to ensure quicker and more effective language learning. Students are able to select the hours and days of study, and each lesson is tailored to their specific needs, learning style, and goals. The individual attention means students progress quickly and confidently with their Spanish learning while having time to immerse themselves in the culture of Cuba.

Mini-group lessons

Our Mini Group Spanish courses allow you to study with your friends and/or family in a semi-private group lesson.  Form your own group of 2 to 3 people, and our teachers tailor lessons to the students’ needs, learning style, and schedule. Students learn with confidence and have the time and flexibility to enjoy Cuba and/or continue to work.

Online lessons

Online courses are a great opportunity for language learning at your own pace and in the comfort of your own house. You will receive all of our learning materials electronically, along with classes customized to your level and interest. It is like getting a little taste of Cuba – but from the comfort of your lounge room.

Intensive course for groups

This option includes 20 hours of Spanish lessons per week held each morning between 8.30am and 12.30pm. The program incorporates speaking, listening, reading and writing. Our interactive teaching method means language is presented in a way that allows students to put it into practice in everyday situations. The course offers a combination of intensive class time and cultural immersion to ensure quicker and more effective language learning.
